*This project has been moved to Wattpad with my other fanfic to help declutter the blog*

Talespin was a staple in the Disney Afternoon block, and a treasure to 90’s kids everywhere. High flying adventures, interesting characters, punchy one liners for all….but there were always a few things I felt could have been done a bit differently to really enhance the series. That is where this fan reboot project comes in for me. So what is different?

Well, the setting for starters. Cape Suzette was originally a bustling cape-side metropolis protected by mountain cliffs and high powered cannons. I always thought that the shiny, modern city was an odd setting for the 50’s inspired cartoon. So Cape Suzette is now a small island village on an island called Baboy Bay which is mostly inhabited by native pig residents. This smaller, more laid back setting helps to explain Baloo’s “island time” mentality. Louie’s bar, reoccurring location, was its own island in the original cartoon but now is a giant mangrove tree in my reimagining so we are treated to more King Louie goodness.

Speaking of the characters….. Can we talk about Molly for a second? She was a fine character but she was almost always used as an obstacle because she was too young to do anything or be left alone. With this in mind I have aged Molly up to 13 and given her a personality beyond just being a child. Because Molly is older, I had to age Kit up a bit too and he is now 16. Rebecca is another character I had to turn my sights on. Most important for me was to make her a smart, modern business woman with actual experience so her role is more serious. Finally Khan had to be fixed. As some of you may recall he spent most of the original cartoon as the villain…kinda..maybe? Well there is no doubt now, Shere Khan is a kingpin force in the island chain.

Lastly I gave the series more memorable, impactful villains with real plans which is probably the biggest change. As much as I loved the cartoon, when you take off the nostalgia goggles it is clear that the series is a mashup of filler episodes and short plots but nothing overarching.

That’s about it which I know feels like everything but I am trying to keep the feel and humor of the cartoon alive while injecting what I think are some natural changes. I hope you enjoy your time in Cape Suzette.
