Hi. I’m Lauren Darnell, the try hard writer. I may not be the best but I do try real hard. If you care enough to read my “about me” page then you probably already get what my blog is about and you are wondering about the person behind the keyboard.
I’m a writer! (duh right?) I mostly write YA novels and picture books but I will write anything I have a story for…hence this blog. I started my writing life doing really terrible fan fiction in middle school and into high school. I started butchering Little House on the Prairie, Lion King, Alice and Wonderland… Eventually I ended up making original characters in the Star Wars universe which made me realize I don’t have to use other people’s characters to tell my own story. Even if I do still really want to use their cool planet names and spaceships!
Fast forward a bit to college and being in a really supportive community, and working in the library, gave me the push I need to start my first novel. Then write my first picture book. And then gave me the confidence to start attending writing conferences, workshops, entering contests, and networking. That journey wasn’t easy and I fell for a lot of bad advice but made some great friends. BUT in it I was given the stellar advice to look into script writing since dialogue and plot development are my strong suits while world building still falls a bit flat…(I’m working on it I promise).
So I did. That brought me back to my roots as I tried my hand at doing spec scripts. Which btw if y’all ever want to see some spec scripts that are basically Guardian of the Galaxy and TaleSpin fanfic drop me an email since they are actually pretty good. Good enough to convince me to apply for Disney’s Creative Talent and Inclusion program for 2020. Still waiting on the results of that but I am assuming it’s a no and moving on with my life! Keep moving forward and all that.
Now a bit about me personally. Not my blood type or how I sleep at night just my interests. Disney is king in my heart. The parks, the movies, the books, the comics, the merch, the characters, the Mickey shaped waffles! All of it. It was even my wedding theme and the content of all my favorite Youtube channels except for the Green Brother’s stuff. After that I like books and movies and music and podcasts and stuff. Steven Universe, Ninja Sex Party, Welcome to Nightvale, and books are always a good day to spend my time.
